Learned Jeremiah Hand is a seasoned executive and entrepreneur who founded Wellstone Filters Inc. (symbol WLSF) in May 2001 after successfully coordinating a reverse merger between Wellstone Filters LLC and Fallaron Inc. At Wellstone Filters Inc., Learned Jeremiah Hand serves as president and chief executive officer. Wellstone's products combine premium tobacco with proprietary filters that remove some toxins in cigarette smoke while improving the cigarette's flavor, under Learned Jeremiah Hand’s leadership.
Learned Jeremiah Hand, a native of Pasadena, Calif., earned a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) degree from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Learned Jeremiah Hand later used this education to gain success as a vice president at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, where Learned Jeremiah Hand was a registered representative (Series 7, etc.), representing and advising retail and institutional clients.
Learned Jeremiah Hand then moved on to the Kenneth S. Warren Institute (KSWI), where Learned Jeremiah Hand was appointed executive director. KSWI, a 501c3 non-profit medical research institute, skyrocketed under Learned Jeremiah Hand’s leadership. Learned Jeremiah Hand initiated the commercialization process for partial intellectual property owned by KSWI, and Learned Jeremiah Hand also negotiated the purchase of a 15-acre research campus and oversaw the modernization of a 15,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art laboratory.
Learned Jeremiah Hand also co-founded and served as chief executive officer for Warren Pharmaceuticals, which, under Learned Jeremiah Hand’s leadership, was granted exclusive worldwide rights to KSWI’s portfolio of intellectual property, including a novel class of molecules related to erythropoietin, also called Tissue Protective Cytokines, which promote the recruitment of stem cells to areas of injury, thus accelerating tissue repair.
Learned Jeremiah Hand also served as chief operating officer for Warren Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In this capacity, Learned Jeremiah Hand negotiated a $10 million Series “A” round financing. Learned Jeremiah Hand also implemented technology licensing agreements with A.S. Lundbeck, a Danish pharmaceutical company, for worldwide rights to the Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System applications of the Tissue Protective Cytokines, which can be used to improve morbidity in stroke, heart attack, paralysis from spinal cord injury, blindness from retinal damage, diabetic neuropathy and kidney failure.
